We’re thrilled to announce that Marc Rhodes, founder of Uncharted Performance, recently featured on the Nomadic Watches Podcast. In this in-depth conversation, Marc dives into the intersection of extreme endurance racing, mental resilience, and high-performance leadership.
This episode isn’t just about ultra-endurance events or elite performance. It’s about mindset, adaptability, and pushing limits—themes that resonate just as much with business leaders and professionals as they do with athletes.
Endurance as a Metaphor for Business and Life
Marc has spent over a decade coaching high performers across multiple disciplines. But for him, performance isn’t just about physical conditioning—it’s about how you think, react, and frame challenges. His personal endurance feats, including self-supported 250km races across the Sahara, Amazon Rainforest, and soon, the Arctic Circle, serve as proof of concept for his coaching methods.
As Marc explains, the race is actually the easy part. The real challenge? Managing energy, mental resilience, and high performance while juggling a business, a team, and personal responsibilities. The key, he says, is in how you talk to yourself when things get tough—because whether in sport or business, self-limiting beliefs are the biggest obstacle to success.

The Power of Self-Talk: "This Will End"
Marc shares one of his simplest yet most effective mental strategies: three words—”This Will End.”
During grueling endurance races—like a 92km stage in the Sahara at 60°C heat—negative thoughts creep in. But instead of letting them take over, he acknowledges them, reframes them, and focuses only on the next step.
“Can I take another step? Yes. Okay, then do it. Then do it again.”
This principle applies just as much to business as it does to endurance. Rather than being overwhelmed by how much further there is to go, focus only on the next immediate step. One good decision, executed well, leads to another.
Building a High-Performance Team
Marc also delves into leadership, sharing insights into building Uncharted Performance. Initially, like many founders, he tried to do everything himself. But true growth came when he trusted his team, allowing them to excel in their zones of expertise while he focused on strategy and vision.
He emphasizes that many high achievers struggle with letting go of control, but the reality is:
If you’re the best at everything in your business, your team isn’t strong enough.
If you don’t trust your people to lead, you’re the bottleneck.
True leadership isn’t about doing—it’s about empowering others to perform at their best.
Marc’s appearance on the Nomadic Watches Podcast is a must-listen for anyone looking to push their limits—whether that’s in the boardroom, on the trails, or in personal growth. His message is clear: high performance isn’t just for athletes.
With the right mindset, systems, and strategy, anyone can operate at elite levels in their own field.
